Do You Need a Mommy?
by Kevin D. Crone
It’s unfortunate that so many who work for a living feel as if there is some kind of control over them to succeed. Is it government, business or the nature of a boss? Do you need to be taken care of? No. You’ve done okay in your life.
Feelings dictate a lot of what we think from, which sometimes doesn’t lead to thinking at all… I mean to totally look at what is causing success or not. If you studied a certain trade and the going rate for it, or in other words, what the market is willing to pay is X, then that is what you will be paid. In other words, you chose your wages. The market always pays what they think you are worth. If you get into a field with low demand or chances to succeed, then that is what you wind up with. Your choice.
If the choices weren’t the best because things changed, then make new ones. You can change your life by changing what you want and becoming who you want to become and gradually get there. That’s how it works!
You can change your productivity, engagement in your industry, your skills and your knowledge. You can even change your perspective and attitudes. Of course you can change! You are not a tree.
When you go through an election campaign like we just did here in Ontario, you can hear the disgust behind people’s feelings about their plight and their life. As if government creates jobs. As if government creates success for us. Whose job is that really?
Again, I am talking about success here. How do we succeed? What choices do we make? We somehow think that it’s the responsible thing to make no choices. Just chill, everything will work out!
Well good luck with that.
If you can’t quickly figure out your reality against what you want, then you are stuck and more changes are coming.
Just yesterday, a customer asked, “What’s the biggest challenge in getting businesspeople to change?” I said “Everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die.” We all want but don’t act. (Especially in our conservative environment.) We seem to be in a culture of being laid back, we’ll see what happens and expect some help.
Well, again your life and mine, and our businesses have to be created. On their own nothing different happens! It takes real thinking, planning, goal setting, and getting better at our craft. Performing at a high level, stretching our comfort zone, learning, deciding, risking, and always going forward toward what we want. It’s about action.
You and I know all of this but we just may not feel like doing what it takes. If that’s the case, we do need someone to take care of us. Like a Mommy!
• What good books are we reading on selling?
• What meetings are we designing to help figure out our market, our customers?
• What are we doing to build people and ourselves?
Oh wait, the hockey game is on! Now I realize I’m a bit too insensitive this morning but come on… we can make new choices, get into new actions and create the success we want. Is it tougher out there? You bet it is. That is the very reason to reset now!
What’s your response going to be?
Have a great week!
