Are you just Settling?

by Kevin D. Crone

settling

You wonder where the time went. Life just goes by doesn’t it? Who would think that you are where you are in life? The great, the good, the bad, and the ugly. You and I forget about the choices we made along the way and it wasn’t all circumstances. Somehow we give too much credibility to the past and circumstances. Yesterday is gone. The past can do nothing but teach us what’s important, where we need to get better and what we need to do. We can smile when we think about the good times, but don’t forget we created them with our openness to new goals, choices, and the plans that we set along the way.

We are where we are at because of goals or the lack of them.

Whether we forget about these success principles or not, they do work. That is not the issue. The issue is, will we examine the truth and reset the goals and plans for 2017 and make it a great year or settle for the past and possibly more of the same?

Lately, I have been saddened by being with various people who have terrible health problems and yet they continued doing the things that cause them. For example, overeating of sugar and fat, too much alcohol or smoking, or not enough exercise. Why can’t they set some simple goals, find a plan and put in place a structure that pulls them toward better health, less depression and more happiness. It doesn’t make sense but it’s a reality. We seem to forget that we have the power to choose and reset life.

Are unhealthy people saying that it’s okay to be so unhealthy? I don’t think so. I think they know the truth. They just don’t accept it. I guess they just don’t believe that things can change and these simple success principles will work for them. Maybe they give up and begin to believe their circumstantial excuses and untruths and weave them into a good story that works for them.

What is your current reality? What are your required outcomes/goals? What are the necessary actions? Do you have all of this written on your iPad or computer or somewhere handy? Did you re-set your goals and plans over the holidays?

Business is the same. There are leaders who will examine current reality, reset goals and plans, and make required changes no matter how difficult it is. Some others will try to let things stay the same but expect more. Good luck with that laid back approach. They’re going to be eaten alive by the marketplace! In this case, the problem is looking in the mirror!

Let’s not let that happen to us. Let’s re-examine our situation:

  • Are we adequately giving the marketplace what they’re willing to pay for?
  • Are we adapting to shifting markets and motivations?
  • Are we selling and marketing a better story to sophisticated buyers?
  • Are we involving our people in thinking out what needs to be done or are we getting engaged in what the business needs?
  • Do our people have relevant goals to make it happen? Do we?
  • Are we adding the best people we can find that match up with what is required for the business to grow?
  • Are we developing and coaching our people so they will hit those goals? Are we developing ourselves?

In summary, whether it’s personal, business, or both, are you preparing for a better life and business? We don’t have to accept circumstances if they can be changed – and most can. Let’s remember to fight for happiness and business success.

What is 2017 going to be for you? Let’s wipe the slate clean, look at the truth instead of our story, reset the plans and get moving. You know what to do.

Have a great week!
