What I Learned from Harley Davidson

Things are not always as you imagine them. In searching for Canada’s leading talent developers, Harley Davidson would not necessarily automatically come to mind but then you don’t know Mike Harwood.

In fact some would automatically assume they were a bunch of rough around the edges ex-bikers. They would be right but they would also be very wrong. Many employees at Deeley Harley Davidson Canada, the Canadian Distributor for Harley Davidson are bikers but they are also one of Canada’s Top 50 Employers and have some of the highest employee engagement and satisfaction levels in the country. They are sophisticated, focused, great at developing talent, and true to their brand.

I recently had an opportunity to discuss their purpose and values with Mike Harwood, their Human Resources Director and came away with a better understanding of how they align their customer brand of “Freedom, Independence and Rebelliousness with their employee brand. Rebelliousness is not a word you will often find in an employee brand but at Deeley Harley Davidson Canada they live by it, foster it, and encourage it.
