Excellence in Eloquence 2017
May 8, 2017 (Brampton): Excellence in Eloquence 2017, Peel’s annual Junior-Intermediate public speaking challenge. Now in its 16th year, Excellence in Eloquence aims to improve literacy skills board-wide by extending curriculum outcomes. In the spirit of the “Future We Want” initiative, the speeches have been created with inclusiveness in mind. Students were encouraged to research topics that are of interest to them. Integrating their opinions, experiences, and research, students are able to communicate unique perspectives on their chosen topics. Public speaking is an indispensable skill. Learning to speak out, developing a voice, and raising awareness are all important ways to become better citizens at home, at school, or in the community.
The speeches are judged based on the Peel oral language scales and the Ontario Language Curriculum. Voice, facial expressions, mannerisms, organization, and content are important components of this evaluation.
Thank-you to all of the speakers, families, Peel teachers, and judges who have supported our students in this endeavour. Dale Carnegie is proud to be a sponsor of this event, developing future leaders.
